A change in the shape and feel of Grand Prix circuits could soon be arriving to the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship. Promoters Youthstream are now using a variety of track building specialists after the long-term association with Greg Atkins recently ended.
With established venues like Talavera de la Reina (Spain), Matterley Basin (UK), Villars sout Ecot (France), Maggiora (Italy) and Talkessel (Germany) up next on the calendar then track responsibilities will be more about maintenance and checks rather than design and construction.
Youthstream were allegedly talking with Freddie Verherstraeten who formerly curated Grand Prix back at the start of the century about an overseeing role but no announcement has been forthcoming. Presumably they are still deliberating on the best person or group to install in the organisation.
Atkins last major role was the creation of the positively received Patagonia Race Track in Neuquen, Argentina but supervision of the relatively new build in Leon, Mexico will have to be revised and a new team will need to look at potential and rumoured future projects in Malaysia, Russia and Brazil in 2016.
