Round two of the Scottish Motocross Nationals took place this past weekend at none other than the Duns Motocross track nestled in the Scottish borders with both Lee Perfect and I on hand and ready to get at it.
Lee showed his intentions towards claiming the Scottish Rookies championship in his first season since moving into the category by continuing on his form from his last moto win at round one. On what can be considered his local track as it lies only 40 miles south of his home, Lee dominated the qualifying and first race taking the top spot in each comfortably.
In the second race of the day however, ‘The Kid’ had to work for it. After a slow start Lee pushed forward into second place before his charge to the front stalled slightly when he came up against his most prominent rival for the title, Dylan Carnegie.
The two had an awesome battle and swapped positions a few times before our guy settled in at the point of the field and eventually rode on to another comfortable race win to mark his second of the day.
The final moto of the day was pretty text book; Start to finish leading the way en route to claiming maximum points for the day and taking a commanding lead in the championship.
Come Sunday it was my turn to throw a leg over the bike in the Scottish National class. A lot of rain was passing through the area in the morning and with it brought some of the slickest conditions known to knobbly tyres. The conditions were tough to handle as traction was minimal at best on the surface which had been baked hard from the pounding it took on Saturday.
However, the proceedings rumbled on and after poling qualifying I took a relatively good start in amongst the mixed capacity line up of race one. I must have been one of the most comfortable (and I say that loosely) on the limited amount of traction as I soon made my way into the lead where I stayed for the rest of the moto to record my first win of the day.
Race two and three started much better pulling a couple of sweet holeshots on my KX250f in amongst the MX1 bikes. From then on it was plain sailing and I was able to lead the entirety of the two races, taking three race wins plus the overall win and extending my points lead in the championship along the way to end a highly successful home round for the team.
