Paddock chatter has the provisional 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship calendar due for release in the coming weeks and with the 18 proposed Grands Prix including up to six overseas rounds with Qatar, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and the USA likely to appear on the list.
Other flyaways could involve a race from either New Zealand, Goa or Oman; the latter forming a potential back-to-back double with Qatar as the series opener’s next spring.
Destinations and circuits for next year ‘floated’ around the confines of the Teutschenthal GP weekend with various people lending comments along the lines of: the Japanese Grand Prix set for a circuit other than Sugo (which hosted the rounds from 2005-2007) and with Honda backing, Oman emerging as a late and unusual host and the United States ready for more FIM World Championship action since the last outings at Glen Helen four years ago.
Apparently the track at Southwick in Massachusetts, north of New York, is the rumoured location and naturally a slot at the end of the calendar so that the AMA Pro Nationals will be complete and American riders can contemplate wild-card slots will be a given.
Sources in New Zealand claim that the Grand Prix is unlikely to occur in 2015 after the necessary government funding needed to make the event happen has not materialised.
The 2015 Motocross of Nations at Ernee, France will fill a customary date at the end of September.
