Swiss star Jeremy Seewer is arguably the standout rookie of the season so far in the FIM Motocross World Championship and another top 10 finish in the GP of Italy last weekend moved the 19-year-old up to 10th in the MX2 standings in his maiden campaign.

For Seewer, who only finished his engineering studies last week, the next challenge in his young career is choosing which factory saddle for 2015 and beyond.

‘Jampy’ has been a Suzuki rider since his junior days and it is known that his current Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe crew want to hold on to #91. Seewer’s results and progress – in spite of dividing his preparation time between schoolwork and a part-time job – means he is wanted by at least two other works outfits.

Just one week after finishing his exams, Seewer now has a different kind of ‘studying’ to do: one of contracts.

“Until now it has been really busy with my school so I have not had time to think about my future,” he said last weekend. “My season has been going very well with some good races and some that were not so good!

“I know you need to learn a lot on the first year. It is time to make something happen because I need to start earning some money from it and go full Pro.”

Seewer is heavily tipped to remain with Suzuki. If the Swiss can be guaranteed the same RM-Z250 engine components as those used by Glenn Coldenhoff this year up until his knee injury (and with which the Dutchman gained three podium finishes) then it would be a promising combination for 2015.

“Suzuki is a really good team and one of the best in the paddock,” he enthused. “They have had some bad luck in the past with their riders and now also this year with Glenn. I know the bike is good and the people around are really nice. Up until now it has been hard to feel ‘part’ of the team because of school; I was only seeing the guys at the races. I was in a position where I could never go to Belgium [Lommel, base of the team]. I think if they can make me a good offer for the future then it will not be a hard decision.”

Seewer however is also not blinkered to the attention and acclaim his performances and results have been attracting with allegedly Honda and Husqvarna very keen to capture his services and potential. “It can be nice to think of some new stuff,” he said. “New is always ‘new’ and can be like a ‘refresh’ but a move like that doesn’t always work in this sport because you need to believe in the people around you in order to get strong. If it feels like it is working then why change?”

With Jeffrey Herlings, Dylan Ferrandis, Max Anstie and Tim Gasjer all set to stay with their current teams and in the class for 2015 Seewer’s decision is among the next in line to determine where and how other MX2 squads invest in the next wave of talent. When will the Suzuki man chose a path? “Difficult question but I think it will happen quickly now because we have been talking for a couple of months. You need to know what you want and go for it.”
