The second moto accident in Italy last Sunday that caused Honda World Motocross team’s Evgeny Bobryshev to break his left leg could also force an exceptional situation for the racing giant for the German Grand Prix and round eleven of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
Bobryshev is believed to have broken his left tibia and fibula and had an operation in Belgium on Monday to have a pin inserted in the snapped bones. If Max Nagl finds that his body isn’t ready for competitive action in Germany then HRC would be without a rider for the factory CRF450Fs for the second time this year. You will probably recall Nagl’s protracted injury rehab and Bobryshev’s visa problem last month meant that a red wheel did not turn for the British Grand Prix.
With Joel Roelants’ severe injury (a T8 and 9 fracture) and Xavier Boog also on the sidelines with a back problem it means that Honda are barely represented in the premier MXGP class that has also been hit by accidents to Tyla Rattray, Jake Nicholls and Matiss Karro.
Bobryshev had his left leg clipped in the third turn of the first lap at Maggiora on Sunday. The Russian immediately knew he was in trouble and signalled for assistance. ‘Bobby’ had spent the first phase of the season recovering from a reoccurrence of problem associated with his broken right limb from 2013.
The fallout from the accidents in France and Italy means that Nagl – who had tentatively pencilled in a return to Grand Prix racing for his home event this weekend – is now expected to turn out for his first meeting since round four in Italy.
Nagl has been riding the CRF450F for several weeks but according to the HWM team has still be suffering with pain in the wrist he fractured in a freak training crash that also led to injuries for Mike Kras and Australian factory Husqvarna rider Todd Waters.
