HRC’s Max Nagl is aiming for a return to FIM Motocross World Championship action by the end of the month. The 26-year-old is now back riding his factory CRF450R but riding is restricted.
“The left wrist is fully healed but the right is still quite painful,” he said exclusively at the weekend. “At the moment I am just riding in deep sand, so no big landings or downhills.”
While Nagl begins to make progress on his physical condition he feels the two weeks before his team’s home event at Maggiora on June 16 will be a stretch too far in terms of race fitness.
The big Italian hills could be too much for the freshly repaired right scaphoid and Nagl knows only too well the folly of trying to return at the highest level while not in the shape required to create an impact. He waited almost all season to recover from a back problem before exploding into contention for the podium at the 2012 Grand Prix of Czech Republic, which was round twelve of that campaign.
“I’m concerned about Maggiora because of the hills and jumps,” he admitted. “It might just be a bit too soon and I want to come back ready to do well, not just go around the track.”
