The likelihood of the FIM Motocross World Championship heading to a circuit in Goa for the first ever trip to India for 2015 is reaching advanced stages.

Representatives from the body behind the Grand Prix and also the motorcycle federation have been working diligently for over a year to secure the approval and backing of the state in order for the FIM series to enter the countries borders.

It is now expected that the contract for the Goa GP will inked at Matterley Basin for the British round of the 2014 schedule at the end of May.

Complex and costly customs controls are one of the obstacles that the likes of Ashley Gomes, President of the Goa Motorsport Federation, will have to navigate for the race to happen and this factor was one of the reasons why World Superbike ultimately had to turn away from a first high level FIM motorcycle world championship race at the Buddh International circuit.

Gomes explained that the May conformation date is pencilled in, as he should have firm news over purchase of the land required to finish the motocross circuit and consider Grand Prix status. Little else is currently known about the project but a press conference at Matterley will undoubtedly reveal more – as well as the depth if interest and participation level in motocross in India.

Youthstream’s aims of global expansion have increased significantly in the last five years. Inaugural visits to Qatar, Thailand, Mexico and a planned trip to Ukraine have all appeared on the Grand Prix calendar while Brazil has become such a strong mainstay since 2009 that the country now hosts two rounds; one in the south east and another north of Sao Paolo.

As previously reported talks are underway for meetings in Japan, New Zealand while Russia remains a vast untapped market with frustrating inconsistency in terms of event organisation and partners.
