International motorcycle stunt rider Mattie Griffin will share centre stage with the UK and Europe’s top motocross racers when round two of the Red Bull Pro Nationals stops off at Weston-super-Mare over the weekend of May 18-19 on the resort’s beachfront.
The 33-year-old from Galway City in the Republic of Ireland is one of the world’s leading stunt riders and travels the globe, performing in front of sell-out crowds from South Africa to Singapore on his modified 200kg BMW F800R.
“This is my first time performing at a Red Bull Pro Nationals event and I am super-excited to ride at Weston-super-Mare,” says Mattie. “People can expect to see a huge variety of stunts from slow-moving technical tricks to fast, mind-blowing tricks, burnouts while driving backwards, high-speed stoppies, no-hands wheelie circles and I even wheelie my F800 while I sit on my handlebars.”
Mattie’s shows will be just one element of the Red Bull Pro Nationals motocross family festival, a seven-round series that tours the country and features top-flight professional and youth racing.
On top of the racing action on a custom-built track sculpted out of the beach south of the pier, the Weston-super-Mare weekend will feature Motocross Experiences, electric bikes and balance bikes aimed at introducing newcomers of all ages to the joys of two-wheeled riding.
Promoter e22Sports will also be organising Freestyle Motocross shows, motorcycle trials displays from Dougie Lampkin, BMX and mountain bike trials demos plus world-class aerial acrobatics from the Red Bull Matadors. For the youngest visitors there will be children’s TV favourites Peppa Pig and George, Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam in the Kidzone area as well as bouncy castles and plenty of attractions for getting youngsters active.
Admission will be pegged at a special one-off price of £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16 and Senior Citizens with family tickets just £20. For more details and to book tickets go to www.redbullpronationals.com
