Defending champion Graham Jarvis dominated Sunday’s The Tough One extreme enduro, lapping up to second place in a masterful performance around the fearsome Nantmawr Quarry.
The Flite Husaberg rider streaked into an early lead and after two-and-a-half hours had notched up a total of 14 laps to win ahead of MRS Sherco’s new signing Wayne Braybrook and KTM-mounted Ben Hemmingway.
The eighth running of Britain’s biggest stand-along extreme event was back at Nantmawr after moving to Back Cowm Quarry for 2011 and, for the first time for a number of years, Pro and Expert class competitors finished after dark with just their own lights and quarry floodlights to illuminate their way.
“It was a completely different race to last year and some of the hills were a lot harder than I thought, especially going up them when it got dark,” says Grimbo. “And coming down them was real slippy – it was a case of hang on for grim death in some places.
“I pulled through to the front on the first lap which gave me a clear run for the first few laps which was important.”
Gas Gas rider Jack Lee won the Expert class on 11 laps from old-timer Mark Jackson and Gary Jenkins. The earlier two-hour race for Clubmen was won by David Dudley with Kiaran Hankin topping the Veteran class.
