Honda (UK) is pleased to announce the Auto Cycle Union’s (ACU) commitment to permitting Honda CRF150R machines to compete in the big wheel class in 2012.
Following the success of Honda’s Xtreme Academy Championship, which is exclusive to Honda CRF150R riders competing in the ACU British Youth Motocross (BYMX) national series, Honda (UK) was keen to clarify the situation around 150 four-stroke machines for next year.
After a recent meeting with ACU Motocross Chairman Brian Higgins, it has been confirmed that the CRF150 four-strokes will continue to race in the big wheel and small wheel classes across the UK and Honda (UK) is looking forward to strengthening its association with the ACU and both parties are looking forward to a successful partnership in the future to help grow young talent within two-wheel sport.
Honda (UK) has been represented by Rev Racing, its official Xtreme Academy partner, at all rounds of the ACU BYMX championship throughout 2011, offering special support and mentoring to CRF riders competing in the national series.
Riders also received clothing, recognition as a Honda rider, access to an exciting prize pool including special awards at each round of the championship and training with Xtreme Academy trainer Brian Jorgensen.
“We’ve enjoyed having a relationship with Honda over the past two years and it’s good for both the series as well as the sport as a whole by supporting our young riders,” says ACU Chairman Brian Higgins. “I can confirm we want to continue working with Honda and have no plans to change any rules with regards to four-stroke machinery in the BYMX championships. From our side it’s positive to have Honda involved with the series and we would like to see this partnership grow over the next few years.”
Manager of Honda Racing, Neil Tuxworth adds: “Honda’s Xtreme Academy has been a resounding success in the UK and it’s great we’ve been able to support young riders as they progress in the national series. We have a good relationship with the ACU and I’d like to thank Brian Higgins for his support for our plans to help grow young riders with this initiative which is available in a number of countries across Europe. Obviously it’s important that we continue to grow the Xtreme Academy and we have a number of ideas for the future but it’s also great that we can confirm there will be no rule changes to affect our CRF150R machine for the foreseeable future.”
