The fourth round of this year’s BYMX championship series proves to be a happy hunting ground for Alexander Brown, Conrad Mewse, Brad Todd and Adam Sterry as they all win their respective sections with outstanding individual performances at Dean Moor at a meeting hosted by the excellent West Cumbria club.
In the 65s Scotland’s Alexander Brown riding the MotoOne KTM claims four heat wins plus one second place finish to record a resounding overall win that now gives him a 10-point advantage in the championship table. Ireland’s Callum Meara finishes second overall impressively carding his best result of the year so far – highlighted by his race three win.
Jed Etchells goes into the meeting on level championship points with Brown but the young Manxman has to settle for third overall following a disappointing day two by his high standards. Positions four, five, six and seven are taken by Harry Kimber, Adam Dunn, Harry Wichman and Colin Scott with just three points covering all four riders at the close of play.
Conrad Mewse once again totally dominates the SW85cc section carding five immaculate race wins. Mewse never puts a foot wrong and apart from a strong challenge in the early stages of races one and two coming from Durham lad Jay Hague it’s plain sailing for the Somerset youngster. Hague proves to be less effective on day two but nonetheless a fighting performance gives him second overall. Will Keogh takes third overall with a polished, eye-catching display that finishes with a real flourish as he goes 2-2. Jamie Carpenter is another rider to post his best result of the year as he claims fourth overall with a brace of third place finishes as his stand-out highlights. ACU Academy pilot Taylor Hammal takes fifth with Aaron Piper giving a good account in sixth.
Ben Watson aboard the HM Plant Red Bull KTM and competing on a non-points scoring basis is the undoubted star turn in the BW division with four of the race wins to his name. In the final race of the weekend however Watson has to settle for third, beaten by Brad Todd and championship leader Liam Knight.
Todd and Knight consistently perform brilliantly over both days crossing swords with Watson in what proves to be the best racing section of the weekend. In the tussle for the overall championship honours there is little to choose between both boys but Todd finishes the stronger – his 2-1-6-1-1 card good enough for his first extremely well deserved national win. Knight’s second from Jack Gardener who takes third with a consistent and solid weekend’s work.
At just 14 years old Adam Sterry racing the Evo Tech Honda writes a little piece of BYMX history when he becomes the youngest winner of a youth Open class race in the opening heat in front of Ryan Houghton. And Sterry isn’t finished there as he goes on to record a magnificent 1-4-3-1-1 overall win. Jamie McCanney rides the wheels off his KTM to grab the heat two win and he places second overall as both Nathan Watson and Houghton hit trouble.
Watson suffers a mechanical failure in heat one and that drops him down to third overall although he takes a clear race win third time out. Houghton finishes second again in race two but it all goes downhill following that when he crashes out of race three and a broken gearbox in heat four sees him retire from the meeting.
Scott Hamilton on the Relentless Suzuki claims fourth overall with a third place finish in heat one as his best highlight. Elsewhere in the section strong shows from Mark Perfect and Jake Millward reward them with fifth and sixth overall.
In the Sunday two-stroke adult championship races Stuart Edmunds on the TM claims a fine 2-1 win over Graham Riley. Ben Magee takes third overall in the 250 section as Luke Remmer wins the 125s going 1-1-2.
