There’s no calamity at the Creek for Ratters or Reedy as they keep their AMA championship leads alive in Maryland…
The Bear might think of it as the home of cookies but Maryland’s much more than just the biscuit baking state. Motocross fans know it as the breeding – or is that bleeding – ground of Travis Pastrana and also the home of one of the US nation’s greatest motocross tracks – Budds Creek. Australia’s Chad Reed and South African Tyla Rattray head into the fourth round of the 2011 AMA Nationals as series leaders and they both leave with the red plates too – Reed keeping his 5 point lead over Ryan Villopoto intact and Rattray extending his lead over Dean Wilson by another precious point.
In the 450 class Speedy Reedy takes the overall with his 3-1 beating Villopoto’s 1-3 courtesy of the better second moto finish tie-breaker. Ryan Dungey takes third overall with a 2-2 while veteran Kevin Windham is the first of the non-podium placers with a 4-4. The top six is rounded out by Mike Alessi (5-5) and Brett Metcalfe (6-6).
The 250 class motos have a cospmopolitan feel as they are won by a flying Scotsman and a South African. Deano Wilson takes a classy win in the opening moto but slips back to third in race two which enables Rattray and his 2-1 to take the overall win. Wilson’s 1-3 is good enough for second overall while Justin Barcia’s 6-2 sees him place on the podium for the day too. Eli Tomac, Broc Tickle and Gareth Swanepoel round out the top six while Blake Baggett runs 7-7 for seventh overall. Despite the less than stellar day Baggett holds on to third in the series standings behind his Pro Circuit team-mates.
