Fresh from an impressive 3-4 overall finish in Agueda, Portugal, Honda World Motocross Team riders Evgeny Bobryshev and Rui Gonçalves prepare for the third round in a row and the seventh round of the MX1 world championship in La Baneza, Spain, this weekend.
The La Baneza venue, located south of Leon, makes its first appearance on the world championship calendar, becoming the new venue for the GP of Spain following a switch from the long-standing Bellpuig for 2011. Part of the MX3 championship calendar in 2010, La Baneza is a relative unknown for those competing in the MX1 and MX2 class and should provide a level playing field.
With no real data to work with and no experience of the venue in its new GP format, it will be very much a step into uncharted territory for both Evgeny Bobryshev and Rui Gonçalves. The practice and qualifying sessions will be of utmost importance to dial in the perfect setting and cut desired lines into the hard pack surface. Saturday will be crucial so that come race day on Sunday both Honda World Motocross riders will once again be in a position to challenge for podium positions.

“La Baneza is a brand new track for everyone so it will be a new experience. It is not too far from my house but I have never raced there so it will be brand new for me also. Spain is a good country for motocross, it is really popular there so I always enjoy going to Spain for the GP. Portugal was good for me and I am looking to continue this form into the next round and push for strong positions and more championship points.”

“I do not know too much about this track really. I have been watching clips on You Tube to try and get a rough understanding of the layout but there is only so much you can learn from that. I have heard that there are some fast sections which will suit me and some really tight sections which maybe not so much. I am feeling good, the blistering I have been suffering on my hands is coming better and this weekend should be a new interesting challenge.”
