With only two rounds remaining in the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, an FIM Championship, the Monster Energy Kawasaki team arrived at MetLife Stadium ready for another visit to the podium.
Eli Tomac transferred to the Main Event with a third in the second semi while Josh Grant transferred to the main with another win in the 450 Semi.
At the gate drop of the Main Event Tomac rounded the first turn in seventh as team-mate Grant was pushed wide and immediately began pressing forwards. After 10 laps of aggressive riding, Tomac moved into fifth place and continued charging toward the front.
With four laps to go he made a pass for fourth and moments later put the #3 KX450F in second place where he would remain until the chequers. Grant crossed the line in 16th.
“I can really say I like it here,” said Tomac. “I’ve had three podiums here in the past three years with my second place tonight. I had a really good day in practice, then my heat and semi didn’t go exactly how I wanted but I still felt good heading into the Main Event.
“In the main I had to make a lot of passes in the first 10 laps but was eventually able to make a push for second. I did some exploring here and there for the right lines and ways around other riders, but I felt strong and am really happy with my result.”
“My day wasn’t bad,” said Grant. “I struggled a little bit with practice and then going into the main I didn’t have the start I wanted. The track was very hard to pass on tonight and I got stuck in a groove, made a couple mistakes but bounced back the best I could. I was able to make a few passes and finally finished 16th. Back to work and looking forward to next weekend!”
