Night one of the 2016 AUS-X Open has concluded at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, and it was Australian hero Chad Reed who took the top step of the podium.

The local hero won almost everything there was to win on the night, beating four-time world supercross champion Ryan Villopoto in straight sets. Reed won the 20-lap main event, however it was America’s Justin Brayton who wrapped up the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship.

Third place was returning hero Jay Marmont who held off American sensation Cooper Webb to claim the final spot on the podium.

The Monster Energy FMX ‘Best Trick’ contest was won by Australia’s Clinton Moore, as he performed his patented ‘Bundy Roll’ body varial for $20,000 prize money.

Second place was Australian Jackson Strong, and third New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood.

The USA vs. AUS feature race ended with Team Australia taking the win, as Chad Reed and Justin Brayton were the final two riders left, with Reed getting the better of Brayton.

In the SX2 Class, it was Penrite Honda rider Gavin Faith who took a lights to flag victory, besting Serco Yamahas Jackson Richardson and championship leader Hayden Mellross in the process.

Mellross went for the ‘take out’ move around the midway mark on Richardson, however as they clashed, Richardson was able to keep on two wheels and Mellross went off the track.

Heading into tomorrow night’s main event, Mellross leads the SX2 (lites) championship by six over Richardson, with Faith a further 12 in arrears.

The 2016 AUS-X Open will return to Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday, November 13, as the sixth and final round of the Australian Supercross Championship will take place.

Chad Reed will go after back-to-back supercross victories tomorrow night, but will again face stiff competition from a pressure-free Justin Brayton, Cooper Webb, Ryan Villopoto and more.
