It’s been a catalogue of injuries in 2017 for the Supercross series and another rider has now announced he’ll be out for this weekend at Salt Lake City.

The discomfort and pain from an Outdoors practice crash has left Jeremy Martin with a tough call. Try and finish the series through very gritted teeth or call it quits for the ’17 SX season in the hope he’ll be fighting fit to go for national title number three when Lucas Oil Pro Motocross kicks off on May 20 at Hangtown.

Martin, reluctantly, has opted for sitting out the rest of Supercross so he’ll be “ready for major battles this summer”.

The GEICO Honda rider said on Instagram: “Hey guys, due to on-going discomfort and pain from a herniated disc in my back. My team and I have decided it’s best for me to sit out SLC [Salt Lake City] and Vegas and be 100 per cent for the outdoors.

“I am a racer and want to race no matter what, but sometimes the best decision isn’t easy and goes against the racer inside me.

“I really want this third title and will be ready for major battles this summer. I’m very disappointed with missing three SX rounds already and how my SX season has gone this year, so all the more reason to put everything into the outdoors since I’m out of the SX championship.”
