There’s been a lot of speculation on the future of Dean Wilson over the past few months, but finally, he has put us out of our collective misery and announced his Supercross plans last night.
Wilson confirmed back in September that he wouldn’t be on 450 SX-F for the factory KTM team and since then the media and the internet have speculated on his future.
One popular theory was Deano would be coming ‘home’ to race in MXGP, but as he exclusively explained to Dirt Bike Rider in October, he just wasn’t done with racing in the US (hit this link to watch the interview).
We captured him rippin’ on a Suzuki (watch our Deano on a Suzuki edit here) and the hope was there would be an RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing seat for him. When we spoke to him about the deal, he was genuinely hopeful, but sadly it never came off, with RCH opting for Tickle and Bogle.
More recently Dean has been filmed putting in laps on a Yamaha – in fact, we have another edit of that coming up soon and he looks super quick – but the popular Scot never got the call we all wanted him to get.
As is the way with so many pro riders now, he took to social media to announce his plans, saying last night that he would bet on himself for 2017 Supercross.
“Don’t feel bad for me. I’m good! I’m going to be racing I’m gonna do my best I’m working hard and doing all I can do to be at the races,” said Deano on Twitter.
Adding in a series of Tweets: “Thx to everyone that supports me and everyone who has helped me put parts together for my bike and will help me at the races.
“So I will be betting on myself this time around. Unfortunately never cut the mustard for a team but hoping I can get back there eventually.
“Will see you at the races !! Ready to have fun and see what I can do. Thx everybody for the support!!”
Dean will hope to keep himself in the shop window, with fill-in rides likely to pop up at some point during the season. If he can avoid walking under ladders or breaking mirrors, perhaps luck will start to turn his way.
So with that, the silly season takes one more step to ending. I for one will be glad when the A1 gate drops and even happier to see Dean Wilson there ready to take it to the factory teams.
