If trucking in 4,000 tons of dirt and constructing a bespoke track in less than 24 hours isn’t a big enough ask already, as soon as the flag falls on the Pro Main Event at round one of the 2014 Arenacross tour we’re going to set to work building a completely new circuit.

With rounds one and two running back to back at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on the evenings of January 17 and 18, it would be tempting to hit the hotel bar for a few celebratory scoops after the opening event’s action. But instead of simply repairing the circuit our track technicians will be working through the night to install a whole new circuit designed by Dirt Wurx USA main man Rich Winkler.

“It’s a big job and the boys are going to be really suffering around 5am,” reckons Wink, “but we’ve got a top team together for this and I reckon by the time the sun starts coming up they’ll be getting a second wind.

“You don’t just need big cojones to race Arenacross – you need them to work behind the scenes if you want to be able to pull out all that dirt and then rework it into something completely new. But it’s worth it to make sure both nights in Belfast are completely different experiences for the riders and fans.”

The seven-round 2014 Arenacross series kicks off with a double-header at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, on January 17/18 before travelling to the LG Arena, Birmingham (January 25), the Echo Arena, Liverpool (February 2), the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle (February 9) and the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield (February 15). The series signs off at London’s Wembley Arena on March 1.
