Action from the 2014 Garmin Arenacross Tour will hit TV screens across the country on Sunday when the first episode in an exciting three-part pilot series is broadcast on Channel 4.

Hosted by former Olympic athlete Iwan Thomas, the series is much more than simply a televised race report and takes an in-depth look behind the scenes with segments on riders, training, the history of the sport and the mind-blowing logistics of staging such a major series.

“The atmosphere’s amazing with the crowd and the skill level with the riders is unbelievable,” says Iwan. “I’ve seen Motocross before but never anything like this. I can only imagine how fit they are. They’ve worked hard and there’s a lot of bravery needed too. I think it’s an amazing sport.”

For Matt Bates, MD of series promoter e22 Sports, getting the tour on terrestrial television represents a major breakthrough.

“Undoubtedly Channel 4 broadcasting the Garmin Arenacross Tour is a massive step forward for us to realise our ambitions,” says Matt. “As we develop the events both in the UK and Europe our future goal is firmly set on taking our colourful sport mainstream as, let’s face it, when done right how many sports can entertain a live audience under the roof of an indoor arena like Motocross.”

The three 30-minute shows will be aired at 7.30am on February 23, March 2 and March 9 and repeated on C4+1, More 4 and 4OD with further repeats throughout the year. The series will also be shown later in the year on BT Sport.

The seventh and final round of the tour takes place at Wembley Arena on March 1. For more information and to buy tickets go to www.arenacrossuk.com
