Winners of the first ever Arenacross team award thanks to the heroic efforts of Tom Church and Carl Nunn, SR75 World Team powered by Molson ended the series on a high. Arenacross caught up with team owner Geoff Walker to ask him how it feels…
AX: So Geoff, how does it feel?
GW: “From a personal point of view I am over the moon. In Tom and Carl we had two incredibly talented and experienced riders and this showed through over the series. We were the only team to qualify and score both our riders in every final and this was a great achievement as the racing was wild and intense during every qualifying heat.”
AX: You went into the series with one of the co-defending champs – the rugged Tom Church – and high hopes of lifting the individual title. Are you disappointed to miss out?
GW: “It would have been great to take the individual championship and although TC had the speed at most of the rounds and Carl built his pace through each round it just didn’t work out individually.”
AX: You impressed lots of people with your pro appearance and the full team effort at every round…
GW: “I would like to thank the pit crew of Dean and Paul for their help during the race days as without good teamwork this would not have been possible. I also want to thank Tom and Carl for their hard work during the series as they battled every step of the way and showed their quality and class against great opposition.”
AX: We know how hard you worked during the off-season to pull together a great team package to go racing with at fairly short notice. That must have been stressful?
GW: “Stress? I think anyone who knows me knows I don’t do stress! Laff! We can’t go racing without our sponsors and we had great support from outside the industry. The guys at the Molson Group and Hyundai Heavy Machinery Europe came in with positive help for the team and the series and it was great to see this level of support for our sport. KTM UK were brilliant and another great sponsor and supporter from outside the sport was rugby superstar Matt Banahan’s JB Promotions company. Matt supported us through the series and his enthusiasm for the sport knows no bounds.
“We appreciate the support from all our sponsors and I would also like to thank Matt Bates and the e22 crew for providing a stunning and spectacular series for us to compete and promote our sponsors through.”
AX: Anything you’d like to add?
GW: “Only Arenacross Team Champions 2013! How fuc*ing cool is that!”
