Britain’s Dean Wilson came tantalising close to an Aus-X Open title last weekend in Sydney.
Wilson, who has had a stellar year after starting his 2017 season as a privateer, was in Australia with his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team-mate Jason Anderson to compete in two rounds of the Australian Supercross Championship.
It was a perfect start to Wilson’s Aussie trip at Saturdayās Monster Energy Aus-X Open final. Taking the win ahead of Anderson in the Qudos Bank Arena.

So with that victory, Wilson sealed the first win for a European rider in the prestigious event. “Itās been a long time since Iāve won a race and to do it in front of you Aussie fans, itās just amazing,” said Wilson.
“All the support Iām getting, Iām really grateful to be here. It was cool to see old Dan Boy [Dan Reardon] leading a few laps for the Aussie crowd, and Jason was just ripping so that was good fun. Iām really happy.”
At round five on Sunday, Dean Ferris bagged the holey but Anderson soon took the lead and held it until the chequers.
Meanwhile, Wilson had an off which dropped him down the field. That left the 25-year-old too much to do with Anderson checked out. But Wilson impressively fought his way back up to take second place.
The Australian Supercross Championship wraps up this weekend, November 18, at Jimboomba X Stadium.
