The final round of the 2016 Monster Energy Arenacross Tour, powered by Ford Ranger, took place at the SSE Wembley Arena in London last night. And just like every other round in the series there was no shortage of mad bar-to-bar action.
But the racing in the Pro class went to a whole new level of intensity in the British capital.
SR75 Molson Racing Suzuki’s Thomas Ramette had points to make up on his championship rival, Geartec Yamaha’s Cedric Soubeyras and in a controversial 14-lap moto, Ramette became the first-ever back-to-back Arenacross Pro champion, while Soubeyras had to settle for the runners-up position in his inaugural AX season.
Arguably, the biggest cheer of the night was saved for Britain’s Adam Chatfield as he stormed his Buildbase Honda to the Main Event win.
But that was last night. This evening Arenacross has announced an investigation into the London results.
“It’s our duty to ensure the riders and teams both adhere to the rules and safety we set out as the licensing body for the Arenacross series,” explains MC Federation manager Roy Barton. “It’s clear that some of these rules were clearly and blatantly ignored during last nights event at Wembley and we will be punishing riders and teams consistently in line with these rules.”
Series promoter, Matt Bates of e22 Sports was also keen to make certain points clear: “There’s a very thin line between riding hard and riding without any care for the safety of other riders and this can’t continue.
“The MCF will decide if there are punishments due, but in my opinion, as much as the excitement level in the Arena was incredible, the reality is that the outcome could have been disastrous whilst the example this sets to our younger riders is terrible.”
